Amy Jade Winehouse was born on 14 September 1983 in the well-to-do area of Southgate, north London. Her taxi driver father, Mitchell, was a jazz enthusiast and often sang songs to his daughter as she grew up.

She trained at the Susi Earnshaw Theatre School from the age of eight and, by the time she was 10, had formed a rap group with one of her best friends. Winehouse later attended the prestigious Sylvia Young Theatre School. She began writing music at the age of 14 and a former boyfriend sent a tape of her singing with a jazz band to an A&R man.

It led to a contract with the Island/Universal record label and a publishing deal with EMI. Her debut album Frank, released in 2003, was described by The Times newspaper as “earthy, warm, lived-in and astonishingly versatile”. She co-wrote all but two of the songs and won praise for what one reviewer described as “the cool, critical gaze” in the lyrics.

But as her popularity soared, her health began to suffer and her behaviour became more erratic. She appeared to be drunk on Channel 4’s The Charlotte Church Show in 2006, and took part in Never Mind The Buzzcocks in a similar state. Her weight plummeted during an exhausting schedule of promotional appearances and concerts in the UK and US. She admitted punching a female fan at a gig in London and attacking her boyfriend when he tried to calm her down. She confessed to self-harming and spoke of battles with eating disorders. And she shocked a journalist from US magazine Spin when she carved the name of then-boyfriend Blake Fielder-Civil into her stomach with a shard of mirror during an interview.

In her short career Winehouse gave us just a glimpse of what might have been, before she was undone by her own personal demons. But the songs she recorded, and the string of awards they brought her, served to underline what a talent she was.

In this final episode, Harry (Radcliffe), Hermione (Emma Watson) and Ron (Rupert Grint) continue their battle to find and destroy the “horcruxes” that the sinister Voldemort needs so he can stay alive for all eternity: these are objects in which the fragments of souls are trapped and whose vital, spiritual force Voldemort, that hateful parasite, can siphon off for his own ends.

They are three British chancers, now fresh out of uni and determined to have one last summer of carefree irresponsibility before they face the real world.

And they’re going out in style, as, for reasons best known to Flynn, they’ve blagged themselves jobs at Beaver Falls, an elite American summer camp for the ridiculously beautiful teenage offspring of California’s rich and powerful. This is a summer job that requires them to be responsible.

To set an example. To be role models… whatever. There’s no way they’re going to let the job spec get in the way of their single-minded pursuit of The Ultimate Summer. Two months of hanging out, getting into mischief, and chasing girls beckon and these boys are all set for the time of their lives. If they can just get through it without getting found out and deported…

Kenny Ortega, who choreographed the original, directed Michael Jackson movie This Is It and High School Musical, will direct the remake. “The opportunity to direct Dirty Dancing is like returning home for me,” Ortega told film magazine Variety.

“I am looking forward to assembling a great creative team and an exciting cast to bring Dirty Dancing to the screen for a new generation.

“Patrick Swayze set the bar for men dancing in movies as Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire did before him,” he added.

The original romantic movie, which was set in the 1960s, tells the story of a teenage girl who falls in love with her dance teacher while on holiday with her family.

The accompanying soundtrack was a big success and included number one hits such as Time of my Life and Hungry Eyes.

It has since been made into a successful stage show, and after a five-year run in the West End which ended in July, the musical begins a tour of the UK in September.

Grey, 51, who played Baby in the original film, was crowned the winner of US show Dancing with the Stars last year.

Swayze, who played Johnny, died of pancreatic cancer in September 2009 at the age of 57.

Brand joked to entertainment website Deadline it would “particularly welcome ideas that could feature a long-haired actor with an unintelligible accent”. “We at the newly founded Branded Films are very excited to announce our new company and the opportunity for puns that it affords us,” the 36-year-old said in a statement. He went on to jokingly suggest the company’s offices would be “in that water tower in which some of the Looney Tunes also live”.
Brand is the latest actor to make a producing deal with Warner Bros, which also has arrangements with Robert Downey Jr, Zac Efron, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon.

Brand has just finished work on a film version of Broadway musical Rock of Ages, due for release next year.

David Cameron said every action would be taken to restore order, with contingency plans for water cannon to be available at 24 hours’ notice. On Tuesday night, unrest spread to cities including Manchester, Salford, Liverpool, Nottingham and Birmingham, with shops being looted and set alight. Three men died when they were hit by a car in Birmingham.

Mr Cameron, speaking after a meeting of the government’s Cobra emergency committee, said police had the legal backing to use any tactics necessary to bring the situation under control, including using baton rounds. He said: “This continued violence is simply not acceptable, and it will be stopped. We will not put up with this in our country. We will not allow a culture of fear to exist on our streets.

“We have seen the worst of Britain, but I also believe we have seen some of the best of Britain – the million people who have signed up on Facebook to support the police, coming together in the clean-up operations.” The PM said more arrests would take place as police worked through CCTV evidence. “Picture by picture, the criminals are being identified and arrested,” he said.

Home Secretary Theresa May told the BBC she had ordered all police forces in England and Wales to mobilise special constables, cancel leave and adopt a “tough, robust approach”.

Earlier, Mr Cameron said: “There are pockets of our society that are not just broken, but are frankly sick.

A massive fuel fire at Berth 1 East in Gibraltar is causing plooms of smoke, whilst fire fighters try to tackle the explosion. Many businesses have been evacuated, local workers say the building they where in started shaking, and people started puring onto the streets.

Several fuel silos nearby are also in danger of exploding.

He was detained by security guards after he ran out of the supermarket in a shopping centre in the holiday resort after committing the horrific crime. Security staff chased him and tackled him to the ground. Manuel Reveron, a local councillor, told the Daily Telegraph: ‘Apparently this gentleman without any motive or any reason, although for this there is no reasoning, entered the shop and then cut this woman’s neck and took the head in his hand outside up to the sidewalk.’

Another government official, Dominica Fernandez, a government official, said the suspect had ‘chosen his victim by chance’. Originally it was reported the victim was a Chinese immigrant working at a mini-market in the Valdes shopping centre in the heart of Los Cristianos. But it later emerged she was a British woman who had been shopping in the store.

A Foreign Office spokesman confirmed this, saying: ‘We are aware of reports of the death of a British national in Tenerife and are urgently investigating.’

The Press Association reports that a regional government spokeswoman said the killer was understood to have obtained a knife from inside the store to launch his attack.
Witness Colin Kirby, of Tenerifemagazine.com, said: ‘There were people shouting. There was a Hispanic-looking guy walking behind me, looking very scruffy, muttering to himself, carrying what I thought was a joke head by the hair. The blood – it just made me think ‘Clash Of The Titans’. I thought “The guy’s a nutter, it’s a joke”.’

Mr Kirby said he had spoken to an English couple who were in the shop when the incident happened. ‘They said this guy just walked in, pulled a big knife and started stabbing at her,’ he said.

Christina Perez, a legal representative at a nearby court, said a group of lawyers witnessed the man sprinting out of the Chinese store, carrying the head.

She said: ‘They saw the man running out of the supermarket with the head in his hands. A security man from the complex ran after him and jumped on to him so he fell, and then he threw the head on to the road.’

Ms Perez, 38, added that her frightened colleagues darted indoors for safety. She said: ‘They were shocked. Some of them ran to the office and locked themselves in. Everybody is shocked. It’s a very safe area. You can usually go anywhere you want in the day or at night. This is really not normal.’

Wednesday evening’s quake came about two hours after a 4.4-magnitude tremor. It is not clear how many people were injured, although Spanish media say there are dozens. Spanish TV captured dramatic images of a church bell tower crashing to the ground, landing just metres from a cameraman. Shocked residents and workers rushed out of buildings and gathered in squares, parks and open spaces. Old buildings were badly damaged.

As night fell many people were still too afraid to return to their homes. “The whole of the centre of Lorca has been seriously damaged,” a delegate from the regional government of Murcia told national radio. “There are thousands of very disorientated people.”

A doctor told the online edition of El Pais that she and her colleagues went into the streets and treated people with serious injuries, many of them “unconscious”.

“The ambulances could not reach them. They took more than 40 minutes,”

the doctor said.

Angel Dominguez, a translator based in Lorca, tweeted: “A friend of ours was in the main avenue of Lorca – she saw debris falling down on pedestrians. The poor girl was shocked.” The earthquakes were felt over a wide area. “Unfortunately, we can confirm… deaths due to cave-ins and falling debris,” Lorca Mayor Francisco Jodar told radio station Ser.
“We are trying to find out if there are people inside the collapsed houses,” he added. A number of aftershocks have been felt in the region after Wednesday’s quake, and authorities fear the death toll could rise.
